DEPLOYABLE PHOTON SIEVE MEMBRANE
The FalconSAT-7 deployment system is a thin membrane with billions of holes that functions like a traditional lens, but folds into a smaller space. This mission is scheduled to launch in 2017, and its primary objective will be to image the sun.
MMA’s deployable optical system deploys a photon sieve assembly from a small spacecraft into a repeatable and predefined shape and location, forming an Optical Bench. Once deployed, it is structurally and thermally stable in the micron range.
